Southwest Missouri's Music Scene

Hey,

It might be sort of cool if folks could post info on any open mics or public jams taking place in southwest Mo (Springfield, Lebanon, really anywhere in the Ozarks). It's tough to find this info just cruising the net, as lot of the info is outdated.

As a guy who builds his own instruments and places his own stuff, I never really rexpect any paying gigs. So, open mic details (or even public jams in the parks or town squares) would be a good deal.

Also, how do the local towns feel about busking on street corners. Are they cool with it, or do the cops chase you off?

Thanks

Blind Doughboy

Hey Blind Doughboy, I would like to chat with you further on the instruments you build and play. I run a gig where we play two Saturday nights each month, one where we feature some guest musicians and one where we have an open mic. If interested in chating about some possibilities, you can contact me at: snitz001@yahoo.com.

Magic Bean across from MSU think it's on National?

There is also an unplugged open mic on Wednesdays in Springfield at The Radish Infoshop - starts at 7pm

and by the way, the open mic on Tuesday's at the Outland usually starts late... like the list doesnt even get started till after 10pm and the show starts around 11p.

If you want to busk in Springfield, I recommend doing it downtown on the First Friday of every month. That is when Springfield has it's First Friday Art Walk. Tons of people downtown and on this "art" night the cops leave the buskers alone.

Any other night in downtown Springfield, the cops might chase you off. At least, they ran us off one night for a "noise complaint".
